The Aztec deity Xochipilli and Maya and Mexica sacrificial rites to venerate the gods are the themes of two seasonal exhibitions inaugurated on August 17 at Cancun Maya Museum.
Xochipilli was the Aztec deity that represented the rising sun and was greeted every morning in the Aztec capital Tenochtitlan (Mexico City) with music and songs celebrating that once more the day had triumphed over the night. The artifacts on show are offerings to the god from the find in the Templo Mayor known as Ofrenda 78.
The Cancun Maya Museum is open daily except Mondays.
