On February 19 in Cancun, 439 competitors of all ages and 54 children took part in the Second Royal Resorts Foundation Race to raise money for a noble cause, rebuilding the home of Maclovio Tun and his family. A total of $214,000 pesos was collected from the race and donations by sponsors. This was almost triple the amount raised in 2016.

This year, 17 Royal Resorts members joined employees and local athletes in the 3, 5 and 10-kilometer race, a 3 kilometer walk and a Fun Run for children.

Maclovio has devoted his life to caring for sick children but now needs a helping hand himself. At 74 years old, he is the sole breadwinner for his family, wife Carmen who is paralyzed and their son Reyes who has severe cerebral palsy. Their derelict house has a leaking roof, no door and no sanitation facilities and is unfit for them to live in.

With the race proceeds, rebuilding will soon begin. The project includes adding a bathroom, bedroom, a kitchen, ramps and other aids for easy access, creating a safe, healthy and comfortable home for Maclovio and his family.
