Fall Activities to Enjoy in Puerto Morelos

Walking beach

Start the day at Grand Residences with the sunrise and a walk along the beach at dawn. Take a deep breath, listen to the sound of the waves and gaze around you as you reconnect with nature. The stars fade and the sun comes up in a blaze of glory. Terns dip and soar above the waves and pelicans dive for fish. You may even see the telltale signs of a turtle nest hatching during the night and the tracks of tiny flippers leading down to the sea.

Yoga

Yoga on the terrace follows your walk or perhaps a game of tennis with friends. Later in the morning choose your favorite activities from the program we have lined up for you or relax poolside. For more fun and fitness, you can even join the guided bike trip to Puerto Morelos (reservations required).

If you are inevitably drawn to the water, take a look at life beneath the waves with a snorkeling or scuba trip to reefs in the Puerto Morelos National Marine Park or further afield on the Mesoamerican Reef. You’ll soon have an impressive list of fish sightings to talk about over dinner.

Pájaro Toh

Amazing wildlife encounters are on your doorstep with a visit to the Alfredo Barrera Marin Botanical Garden or one of the jungle cenote parks along the Ruta de los Cenotes. You are sure to spot a variety of birds ranging from parrots, Yucatan jays and hummingbirds to the turquoise-browed motmot or pájaro toh, a true bird of paradise. Coatimundis. foxes, spider monkeys and deer may also put in an appearance, along with huge blue morph butterflies, iguanas and green tree frogs.

If you are interested in birds, the Yucatan Peninsula is a haven for migratory species during the fall and winter, swelling the numbers of tropical species you are likely to spot, and local birding guide Luis Ku will take you right to where the birds are.

Altar Día de Muertos Flor de Canela

Towards the end of the month, you’ll begin to see cempasuchitl marigolds and red cockscomb flowers, pan de muerto, candy skulls and cut tissue paper as people begin to erect Dia de Muertos altars in honor of the departed. While Grand Residences and Puerto Morelos will have their own altars, you may also want to plan a visit to Xcaret from October 30 to November 2 for the Festival de Tradiciones de Vida y Muerte, a celebration of timeless Day of the Dead customs, music, dance, drama and art.

Your Concierge can help you plan visits to Xcaret and to the Ruta de los Cenotes.
