Royal Resorts is celebrating the 40th anniversary of the founding of its first resort The Royal Cancun (1977 – 2017). Over the years, it has become a beloved home away from home for several generations of Royal Resorts members and it still looks as beautiful now as it did four decades ago.

Founded in 1975, Royal Resorts is a Cancun pioneer and The Royal Cancun was one of the first resorts in the Hotel Zone. It opened its doors in 1978 and proved so popular that The Royal Mayan soon followed in 1985, The Royal Caribbean in 1988 and The Royal Islander in 1993. The Royal Sands opened in 2000 and then came expansion into the Riviera Maya with The Royal Haciendas in 2006 and a new concept of luxury beachfront living at Grand Residences in 2013.

It has been an incredible 40 years. Together we have seen the extraordinary growth of Cancun and the Riviera Maya, now two of the world’s most popular beach playgrounds, and Royal Resorts become a leading vacation ownership company.

Today, the Royal Resorts family comprises 3,000 employees, many of whom have been with the company for more than 20, 30 and even 40 years, and more than 70,000 members. Over the years, more than 3.5 million members and guests have enjoyed a Royal Resorts vacation and we look forward to welcoming many more in years to come.

Welcoming our members back year after year has been truly special. We have met families and friends. We have witnessed weddings and joyous reunions that bring people together from all over the world. We have watched children grow up at the resorts and seen many of them return with their own children to experience the same magic. And down the years, we continue to look for ways to enrich the Royal Resorts vacation experience for everyone, with more amenities, activities and services.
