Work is underway on a new lighthouse on the Puerto Morelos waterfront. The new 16-meter-high light will guide shipping past Puerto Morelos Reef and sandbanks in area waters. It will replace the white lighthouse that has stood since 1968 and which in turn was a substitute for the iconic leaning lighthouse that has become a famous village landmark.
