The beach reforestation program that began in Cancun in 2014 has now been extended to Puerto Morelos where 8,000 palms will be planted on the dunes and beaches this year. Palm trees and other shoreline plants anchor the sand with their roots and help reduce coastal erosion.
The second phase of the reforestation project in Cancun is set to begin in August with the planting of an additional 4,500 palm trees along the shoreline.
