Grand Residences participates in Earth Hour 2023
On March 25, Grand Residences will be joining the global Earth Hour campaign organized by WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature or World Wildlife Fund) to draw attention to climate change and biodiversity loss and the need to protect our planet and work towards a better future.
Participate in our Earth Hour activities
Guests are invited to join in the Earth Hour activities lined up during the day. Activities will include arts and crafts and family activities to enjoy with your children and details, times and locations will be available at the Activity Center and Kids Club. Finally, at 8:30 p.m., non-essential lights will be turned off around the resort for one hour.
We hope that you will join us and dim your lights at Grand Residences this Earth Hour. Sit on the terrace, gaze up at the stars, listen to the sound of the waves and reconnect with nature as you make your own pledge to protect the planet.
Millions of people around the world from 192 countries come together for Earth Hour every year. The lights on some of the world’s most iconic buildings and landmarks including the Eiffel Tower, the Coliseum and the Acropolis are dimmed for one hour as part of the event.
Going green at Grand Residences
At Grand Residences, our commitment to environmental stewardship is of the utmost importance and we are doing what we can to protect the precious ecosystems that surround us. You’ll have seen how the mangroves at the heart of the resort beside the walkway to the restaurants are thriving. They have grown so much in the years since the resort opened, and are a haven for birds such as flycatchers, orioles, hummingbirds and egrets. In the resort nursery, our gardeners tend other native shrubs and trees such as spider lilies, sea grape and ciricote that typically grow along the dunes.
Back of house, in the machine house, we use energy efficient technology, and the wastewater treatment plant complies with the highest of standards. Our employees are aways looking for ways to save water and electricity and to support green initiatives such as sourcing organic or sustainable produce, supporting small farmers and buying local and regional products.
We are doing our bit for a plastic-free planet. Pool and beach food orders are served in biodegradable food containers instead of polystyrene and our straws are made from avocado seeds and bamboo. We´ll only bring a straw for your drink if you expressly ask for one. And to reduce our consumption of single use plastic bottles of water we serve reusable jugs of purified water on the pool deck, the lobby and in other areas around the resort.
You can help us to save water, electricity and reduce our use of laundry products and the chemicals they contain by not requesting a change of bath towels every day. If you would like to join this campaign, leave your towels hanging up if you wish to use them again and put them on the floor if you would like new ones.
When you go on a beach walk help us keep the beach clean by taking a biodegradable bag with you to pick up trash and plastic washed up by the waves. It’s a start for making our world a cleaner place.
Another way you can help us protect the environment is by wearing a t-shirt when you swim or snorkel in the sea or a cenote instead of applying sun cream or oil. Sun products contain chemicals that are harmful to corals and marine life.
