The Cause
A community space for Cancun residents and visitors, Parque Cancun is taking shape on the original landfill site for the city of Cancun. The land has been reclaimed and reforested, transforming it into a new green space with walkways, play areas, quiet corners for yoga and meditation and even chess classes, an amphitheater for concerts, palapas for environmental education sessions, a timeline of the history of the world, a sundial and much more. In future stages of the Parque Cancun project, a biodiversity museum and other attractions are planned.
Located behind the schools and universities on Bonampak Avenue in Downtown Cancun, it lies next to the mangrove forest on the shores of Nichupte Lagoon, a protected area, and is a haven for wildlife, such as parrots, Yucatan and green jays, pygmy owls, coatimundi, opossum and grey fox, among others.
From the outset, Royal Resorts has been involved in the development of the park, sending gardeners to help in the landscaping. The Royal Resorts Foundation has decided to give more support to this community cause in 2023 and proceeds from the race will be donated to the park to fund a children’s playground.
