Start your vacation with a snorkeling trip to Puerto Morelos Reef Park, a protected stretch of the Mesoamerican Reef that is rich in marine life. Local fishermen know all the best spots for snorkeling and a variety of dive trips are also available for scuba fans.
If you enjoy fishing, charters can be arranged through the local marina. It’s only a short boat ride out to the rich fishing grounds of the deep oceanic trench between the Riviera Maya coast and the island of Cozumel known as the Cozumel Channel. Snapper, dorado, wahoo and barracuda are plentiful all year round and in the winter and spring marlin and sailfish move through area waters in pursuit of schools of sardines and mackerel.
Catch and release fishing is the rule in the area, particularly for white and blue marlin and sailfish.
