It’s sport fishing season in Puerto Morelos and the Mexican Caribbean. Marlin and sailfish are moving through area waters in pursuit of schools of sardines and mackerel, and snapper, dorado and wahoo are plentiful all year round.
Casting off from the Puerto Morelos dock, it’s a short boat ride to the rich fishing grounds and the deep ocean trench between the Riviera Maya coast and the island of Cozumel known as the Cozumel Channel.
If you are lucky enough to land a marlin, sailfish or dorado, please follow the catch and release policy in effect at local marinas by releasing it back into the wild and helping conserve fish stocks.
The lagoons along the Quintana Roo coast offer a different challenge – they are rich in bonefish such as tarpon and snook and attract fly fishermen from all over the world.
If you enjoy fishing and are planning a day out on the high seas or want to go bone fishing, the concierge will help you organize fishing trips and boat charters.
