The best nesting season ever, a record-breaking year is how biologists have rated the summer of 2015 at the Xcacel-Xcacelito Turtle Sanctuary in the Riviera Maya. More than 4,700 green and loggerhead turtles laid 376,000 precious eggs along this pristine 2.5-kilometer stretch of beach to the south of Akumal.
Cozumel, Cancun and Isla Mujeres are also reporting a significant increase in the numbers of turtle nests, eggs and hatchlings released during the 2015 season.
