Fishermen from Cancun, Cozumel, the Riviera Maya and other parts of the Caribbean gather in Puerto Morelos this month to take part in two annual tournaments.

The fleet of boats heads out to the fishing grounds and each crew shares a common goal of landing the largest white and blue marlin, sailfish, swordfish and dorado.

The Cesar Martin Rosado Tournament was held the weekend of May 1-3 and was followed by the Don Andrés García Lavin Tournament, May 8-10. In both tournaments fishermen were asked to respect the catch and release policy to conserve fish stocks.

The Don Andrés García Lavin Tournament is one of four fishing events in Quintana Roo to be endorsed by the National Sport Fishing Federation; the others are in Cancun, Cozumel and Chetumal. The tournament winners will have the chance to represent Mexico in the 2016 World Championship.
