Tequila, the world-famous spirit distilled from the blue agave may be Mexico’s liquor of preference, but there are many more traditional spirits from different parts of the country that you might want to sample during your time here.
On May 9, Cancun Center hosted the Festival de Destilados Artesanales de Origen, an event showcasing distilled spirits from 19 different Mexican states.
Fifty different artisanal distilleries exhibited their wares during the Festival. Mezcal, the fiery liquor from Oaxaca, headed the list and others included sotol, raicilla, bacanora, posh, rum, charanga and spirits distilled from the sap of the agave that do not have the official denomination as tequila.
