On February 1 the clocks were put forward one hour in the state of Quintana Roo and the Mexican Caribbean has an extra hour of daylight as a new time zone comes into effect.
This measure means that Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Cozumel and other tourist destinations in the state are now on the same time as cities in the Eastern Standard Time zone in the United States. It does not apply to the neighboring states of Yucatan or Campeche (something to bear in mind if you are planning to attend events in Merida, Valladolid or other places in Yucatan) and the state will also be one hour ahead of Mexico City.
